When 12 Hardin Simmons University students were given the opportunity to go to Washington D.C. to represent their school at a National Model UN conference, they were ecstatic. It would come as a surprise when a 4-day trip would change to a week.

Hurricane Sandy became the group's road block leaving the students stuck in D.C. for a few more days. Aside from the challenges faced with competing against different schools, they dealt with a national problem that struck a huge blow on north-east side of the country.

Despite, the hurricane washing on their agenda, the students came back with a well-deserved honorable mention. Fifty-five universities from across the country participated in this conference representing a particular country. The HSU students were assigned the country of Philippines to discuss the nation's economic and social problems.

Four students stopped by the show Thursday describing their experience at the conference, and riding out the hurricane.
