McMurry Men Head To TAMUK's Thanksgiving Classic

KINGSVILLE, Texas - The McMurry basketball team will put its early 3-0 record on the line when it travels to Kingsville, Texas to take part in the Holiday Inn Emerald Beach Thanksgiving Classic on Friday and Saturday, November 23 and 24, hosted by Texas A&M-Kingsville.

The War Hawks will take on Cameron University on Friday at 6 p.m. before playing against Kingsville on Saturday at 4 p.m.

In the War Hawks' last contest against York College, McM was led by 22 points from Antonio Bell. They also saw their first double-double of the year as Alfred Perez went for 16 points and 11 boards.

Four players are currently averaging double figures for the War Hawks, led by Kenny Williams' 16.7 ppg. Bell is averaging 14.0 points while Takoby Jackson and Perez are averaging 11.0 and 10.7 points, respectively.

Cameron University, a member of the NCAA Division II Lone Star Conference, comes into the contest with the War Hawks outscoring their opponents by 23.5 points per game. The Aggies are averaging 85.5 points, led by Assaad Robinson, who is scoring 15 points per contest.

Texas A&M-Kingsville comes into the weekend with a 2-1 record, having beaten Texas Lutheran and St. Edward's after dropping their opening-season game to Texas A&M International. The Javelinas come in scoring just over 67 points per contest while shooting 40 percent from the floor. High-point man for TAMUK is Rasha Basey, who averages 16.0 points per game.


By The Numbers

20 ... The War Hawks are currently out-scoring their opponents by 20 points per game (81.0-61.0).

20% ... The McMurry defense is holding its counterparts to just 20 percent shooting from behind the three-point arc.

50.6% ... Efficiency has been the name of the game for McMurry on the offensive side of the ball, shooting 50.6 percent from the field.

78.8% ... The team is also shooting 78.8 percent from the free-throw line.

0 ... In the War Hawks' 86-79 victory over York College, the team hit no three-point shots in the contest (0-for-6). The last time a McMurry team did not hit a three in a game was Feb. 16, 2008 against Texas Lutheran (0-for-15). Interestingly enough, McM also won that game, 60-48.

10 ... McM is averaging ten steals per game so far this season.

20 ... In two of their first three games, the War Hawks have held their opponents to under 20 points in the first half. (19 vs. University of the Southwest; 18 vs. Sul Ross State).

11.7 ... McMurry is out-rebounding its opponents by an average margin of 11.7 per game.
