Do Pets Make Good Presents?

Adoptions at the Abilene Animal Shelter are half off, just in time for the holidays.

Rescue the Animals and the SPCA are teaming up for the Christmas Sale for the twelfth year in a row.

Shelter officials say they typically see an increase of abandoned animals this time of year, with up to 40 pets coming in every single day.

But, just because the animals are on sale and the shelter is nearly at capacity doesn't mean it's always a good idea to give pets as "presents."

"If you're giving a pet as a present, you just need to be sure the person wants the animal, has the space for the animal, and has time for the animal," emphasizes Aaron Vannoy who world at the Abilene Animal Shelter.

If the sale is a success, it'll set a new adoption record for the shelter.

The event runs until December 31.
