Del Rio Sector Border Patrol Agents Seize Heroin, Marijuana Worth Quarter Mil

U.S. Border Patrol agents seized 249 pounds of marijuana and over two-and-a-half pounds of heroin in recent days.

Friday, Eagle Pass North Station agents, patrolling on a local ranch, came upon several bricks wrapped in brown cellophane tape. The 29 individually wrapped bricks of marijuana totaled 60 pounds and have an estimated value of $48,000.

Saturday, Eagle Pass North Station agents, assigned linewatch duties discovered one military-style duffel bag containing approximately 45 pounds of marijuana with an estimated value of $35,680.

Sunday, Eagle Pass North Station agents working inside a local ranch found two green military-style duffle bags containing approximately 90 pounds of marijuana with an estimated value of $71,920.

Monday, Del Rio Station agents working at a traffic checkpoint on Highway 277 North seized 67 pounds of marijuana with an estimated value of $53,680. The contraband was concealed in the spare tire located in the undercarriage of the vehicle.

Tuesday, Eagle Pass South Station agents, working at the immigration checkpoint on Highway 57, seized 2.52 pounds of heroin with an estimated value of $80,640 and arrested a male U.S. citizen. A search conducted on the subject onboard a passenger van revealed two bricks wrapped in black electrical tape strapped to his legs.

All cases were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
