The nation paused earlier Friday morning in remembrance of the massacre at the Connecticut elementary school.

Staff members at Abilene Christian University rang the bell 26 times Friday morning at 8:30.

The bell was rung once for each of the elementary school students and teachers in Newtown, Connecticut who were killed in the shooting incident.

Many communities had similar events at the same time when the first 911 call was received from Sandy Hook Elementary after the gunman forced his way into the school, shooting and killing 20 children and 6 adults before committing suicide.
