The Abilene Fire Department's Hazmat unit was called in after a hundred gallons of diesel fuel spilled early Sunday morning.

A tanker truck leaked the fuel into the parking lot of the Best Western on Ridgemont Dr. overnight, according to AFD's Public Information Officer, Greg Goettsch.

The driver was hauling drums from South Dakota to Austin and stopped in Abilene for the night.

Early Sunday morning, officials noticed one of the barrels was leaking and had spilled approximately 100 gallons of diesel.

City crews were called in to use peat moss and sand to soak up the spill.

Goettsch said the incident did not pose an extreme hazard and no one was evacuated or injured.
