APD: Violent Noises from Abandoned Apartment Prompt Call to APD

Tuesday afternoon at about 5:30, Officer Martin Walker responded to a shoplifter call at a business in the 1600 block of Hwy 351. APD dispatch had been notified by a loss prevention employee that an adult male subject was detained for alleged theft. Officer Walker contacted the involved parties and his preliminary investigation revealed that the male subject was observed by loss prevention acting suspiciously, to include looking around for associates and cameras. While in the store, the male subject selected a 50-inch television and placed it in a shopping cart. The subject was then observed leaving the store after passing all points of sale with said television. The subject made no attempt to pay for the television and was detained. The stolen television, valued at approximately $548, was recovered. The male subject was arrested for misdemeanor Theft.

Tuesday night at about 9:15, Officer Jonathan Merrick contacted a motorist in the 100 block of Vine Street for a traffic violation. During the preliminary investigation, Officer Merrick contacted the male driver and smelled the odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. The vehicle was searched and a small quantity of marijuana was located inside the vehicle. The investigation revealed that the marijuana was contraband belonging to the driver. The driver was arrested for misdemeanor Possession of Marijuana.

Wednesday morning at about 1:40 a.m., Officers Joe Plato and Paul Martinez responded to a disturbance call at a residence in the 2600 block of Nonesuch Road. APD dispatch had been contacted by a concerned resident who reported hearing banging noises from an apartment. The calling party also advised APD that they heard yelling and glass breaking. Officers arrived to find the front window to the apartment broken and attempted to contact residents inside. Though the officers heard someone moving around inside the apartment, no one came to the door. A male subject was spotted locking a patio door while officers were on scene. The apartment management was summoned to assist and they confirmed that the apartment was vacant. Before entry into the residence was made, a male subject was observed leaving through the back patio door and was detained by officers. The preliminary investigation revealed that no other persons were in the vacant apartment. The male subject told officers that he did not have permission to be inside the apartment. Apartment management expressed their desire to press charges. The male subject was arrested for misdemeanor Criminal Trespass.
