Lady Badgers Advance to State Finals

The Merkel Lady Badgers are a step closer to the school's first state
championship after a win over Poth in the semifinals Friday.
The Lady Badgers got off to a hot start thanks to Ciara Cope and her nine points. Combined with a Macy Mays to Allison Szabo basket, the Lady Badgers were able to run out to an early lead.
Then Poth would make a come back, and tie the game up at 33 a piece.
Merkel would once again respond with a basket by Mays, and a lay-up by Meredith Ross off a Cope bounce pass.
In the end, the Lady Badgers would pick up a 56-47 victory at the Frank Erwin Center. Now the only thing standing between them and a Class 2A state title is Brock at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.
