TxDOT Refreshes Pavement Markings on Area Roadways

By: Press Release
Updated: March 4, 2013
The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) will begin a project in early March to refresh pavement markings on roadways in seven counties.

About 550 miles of pavement in Fisher, Haskell, Jones, Kent, Nolan, Shackelford and Taylor Counties will receive new thermoplastic pavement markings.

The reflectivity of the markings diminishes over time due to wear and tear from traffic, sunlight and weather conditions and must be refreshed periodically. TxDOT will use a new, more durable material for marking high-traffic concrete intersections.

The new material will last longer and reduce the need for workers to replace the markings over time.

Total Highway Maintenance of Cedar Hill will complete the work for about $958,000 and should be finished by the end of May.

Although the contractor will attempt to work during non-peak traffic hours, drivers are urged to be aware of the striping truck and wet paint in the work zones and avoid crossing fresh pavement markings.
