ACU Women To Learn NCAA Tournament Fate

By: Eric Boynton
Updated: March 9, 2013
ABILENE - The ACU women's basketball team will learn its post-season fate at 9 p.m. Sunday night when the NCAA announces the full 64-team field for the NCAA Division II women's national tournament.

Fans are invited to join the team in watching the tournament selection show Sunday night in the classroom of the Teague Special Events Center on the ACU campus.  The classroom will be open to the public and the media starting at 8:30 p.m.

The Wildcats (21-6) were ranked No. 3 in the latest NCAA Division II South Central Region rankings and are expecting to receive their latest - and last - at-large bid to the regional tournament.  ACU last went to the regional tournament in 2008-09.  The Wildcats are moving up to NCAA Division I affiliation and the Southland Conference on July 1, 2013, so this will be the Wildcats' final chance to reach the regional tournament.

ACU shared the Lone Star Conference regular season championship with Midwestern State, but the Wildcats were eliminated in the first round of the conference's post-season tournament, thanks to an 80-79 loss to Texas A&M-Commerce.

The Wildcats last reached the NCAA tournament at the end of the 2008-09 season, earning the No. 8 seed as an at-large participant.  ACU hasn't won an NCAA tournament game since beating Missouri Western, 86-83, in the semifinals of the 1998 regional tournament in Emporia, Kan.
