Whether it's the form of a wart, rash, or precancerous growth--the health of your skin more than just skin deep.

There are a lot of conditions that can cause a lot of inflammation inside your body and can manifest on your skin", says Dr. Paras Ramolia of Abilene Dermatology & Skin.

It's the first thing people see, and dermatologists, like Dr. Ramolia, say what goes on inside is reflected on our largest and outermost organ.

Joseph Wolpe is here today for a routine check up, having had cancer scares in the past.

"It's more important to be proactive. I've lived in Texas going on 35 years now, and I've spent a fair amount of time outside. So I've been pretty fortunate considering the condition of my skin", explains Wolpe.

But your epidermal abnormalities can point doctors in the right direction when it comes to many different medical issues.

"Itchy skin can be a manifestation of what's going on inside, with conditions such as liver disease, kidney disease, thyroid disease, and blood count abnormalities", Dr. Ramolia tells us.

Your skin is the direct line of communication to let you know what's going on inside, so next time you notice an itch or a spot on the surface, your skin could be trying to tell you something deeper.
