McM Tennis Teams Swept at Incarnate Word

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - McMurry University's tennis teams both dropped 9-0 decisions to the University of the Incarnate Word on Sunday afternoon at the Mabry Tennis Center. The setback dropped the War Hawk men to 7-2 on the year, while the women are now 4-8.

The No. 19-ranked UIW men improved to 7-3 with the victory. The Cardinals' women's team, ranked No. 33 in NCAA II, are now 7-6,

In the men's competition, the Cardinals swept all three doubles matches and won five-of-six singles bouts in straight sets. Only Dani Perez - playing at third singles - managed to go to a third set for McM.

McMurry's Casjen Rico, playing No. 6 singles, suffered his first individual loss of the season after starting 6-0 in 2013.  At No. 1 doubles, Rico and partner Chris Breaux, who were 7-0 to open the season, also took their first loss versus UIW.
The War Hawks women faced a similar outcome, losing all three doubles matches and losing five singles matches in straight sets. At No. 6 singles, sophomore Brandy Curry split sets - winning the first 6-2 and losing set 2 by a 6-1 margin - before dropping her third set (10-6).
