Entering the game ACU held a 2-1 advantage in the weekend series over the 24th ranked Cardinals.
In the early innings a series win may not have seemed that promising. Pitcher Ty Taylor found himself in trouble in the first inning with the bases loaded and no outs on the board.
He would manage to hold the Cardinals to just one run, and cap off the inning with a strike out.
In the second inning Taylor would once again find himself in hot water. This time Lukas Miller would get a hit to left field to bring across the first of Incarnate Words' two runs in the inning.
Taylor would keep Incarnate Word off the scoreboard after that inning, and finish the day with nine strike-outs.
Then the Cardinals pitcher went to work. Alex Shaffer picked up a key strike-out of Keith Yorkman in the third inning, and hold off the Wildcats until the fifth inning.
ACU would tie the game a 3-3 in the fifth, and eventually pull out a 5-4 victory in the tenth off a hit by J.R. Roland.
