Man Caught with Belt, Heroin

Saturday morning at about 12:25, Officer Mark Thomas responded to a two-vehicle crash in the 2800 block of South 7 Street. A concerned citizen had notified APD dispatch about a crash that had occurred. The passenger in one of the involved vehicles had also notified APD dispatch and suspected the driver of the other vehicle, a pickup truck, was very intoxicated. The preliminary investigation revealed that a grey Chevrolet Suburban was traveling north on Barrow Street and a red Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck was traveling east on South 7 Street. The Suburban was occupied by the driver and one passenger. The Silverado was occupied by the driver and disobeyed a red-flashing light at the intersection. The Silverado collided into the Suburban in the intersection, causing both vehicles to leave the roadway. The Suburban was hit on the left front quarter panel and sustained moderate damage. The Silverado's front end sustained moderate damage. Officer Thomas contacted the involved parties. When contacting the male driver of the Silverado, Officer Thomas smelled the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from the driver. The driver also displayed indicators of intoxication and told the officer he had been drinking and was the sole occupant of the truck. The driver conducted standard field sobriety tests which he performed poorly. A mandatory blood sample was taken from the driver of the Silverado and the driver reported no injuries. The driver of the Silverado was arrested for misdemeanor DWI (with accident). The driver of the Suburban reported a possible injury. The sole passenger in the Suburban had a non-incapacitating injury and was taken by ambulance to a local hospital. This investigation continues.

Saturday night at about 9:50 p.m., Officers Daniel Henning and Paul Martinez responded to a disturbance call at a residence in the 1000 block of South 15 Street. APD dispatch had been notified that a known male subject was at the residence and was refusing to leave. Officer Martinez arrived at the residence and when he had entered the residence, he contacted a male subject standing in the living room with a belt in one hand and another object in the other hand. When the man saw Officer Martinez, the man began to walk to the back of the residence and threw the object he was holding into a room. The subject was detained and the preliminary investigation revealed that the object thrown was a needle containing a liquid substance. The subject told the officer the liquid was heroin. The liquid substance tested positive for heroin. The subject was arrested for felony Possession of a Controlled Substance (Heroin).

Sunday afternoon at about 1:50 p.m., Officers Loren Adlesperger and Don Brown responded to a disturbance call at a residence in the 1500 block of North Pioneer Drive. APD dispatch was notified of a physical altercation involving family members. Officer Adlesperger arrived on-scene and was informed by children in the front yard that a mother inside the residence was being assaulted. When Officer Adlesperger entered the home, a male subject saw him and began walking towards a bedroom and then attempted to close the bedroom door. Officer Adlesperger managed to stop the door from closing and began to place the subject in custody and a struggle ensued. The subject was detained and the preliminary investigation revealed that the subject had assaulted his mother with his hands as well as several other persons at the residence. The subject was arrested for two misdemeanor offenses: Assault Family Violence and Resisting Arrest. This investigation continues.
