"There's a lot of chaos until the fire department and EMS gets here. A lot of people pull up because they see what's going on, to see if their family is involved. And we don't know if they're going to make it or not", says Randy Teague, of Air Evac.
After a drunk driving accident, literally all that's left behind is wreckage and heartache.
"I've seen my share of fatalities, and anything we can do to save one student is well worth it", says Tim Smith, principal of Hawley High School.
Statistics show every 15 minutes someone dies in an alcohol-related accident. To demonstrate this, every 15 minutes the grim reaper goes into a classroom to claim a life, in front of everyone.
Just six months short of graduation, all-star athlete, Logan Thompson, was one of the students killed in the accident, and says this experience is really hitting home.
"It has a big impact on me and my family. My dad lost his brother in a drunk driving accident. It's just really serious with us about no drinking and driving", says Thomspon.
Logan will remain silent all day, simulating his absence.
As principal Smith reads Thompson's obituary over the intercom, he thinks about how an accident like this would impact those closest to him.
"I think everyone would be devastated, no matter who it was. I know my father couldn't handle it. It would be horrible on him to lose his brother and me", explains Thompson.
The school's hope is that the students would take the simulation seriously, being hit with the sobering reality that their futures could be shattered in an instant.
