Updated: March 22, 2013
Three big names in the film industry will attend ACU's ninth annual FilmFest on Friday, March 22, as guest judges.

FilmFest is a film festival designed to give students a creative outlet to explore their interest in film production and the motion picture/entertainment industry.

Top student films will be shown and awards presented at the gala red-carpet event to be held at Abilene's historic Paramount Theatre in downtown Abilene on March 22.

The awards event is open to the public. Admission is $5 per person with tickets available at the door.

This year's guest judges include:
  • Matt Maxwell is the visual arts director for Golf Course Road Church of Christ in Midland. As a student at ACU, he helped found ACU FilmFest. Before moving to Midland, he worked in television production in California on projects including the TV show Wipeout.
  • Kris Young teaches screenwriting at the Los Angeles Film Studies Center and the University of California, Los Angeles. He has written six movies for the Disney Channel, pilots for Nickelodeon and CBS and worked as a lyricist for a major R&B record company. Additionally, Young has written many national TV commercials and award-winning scripts.
  • Brent McCorkle is a feature filmmaker from Nashville, Tenn. His debut film, "Unconditional," came out this fall. Originally from the Metroplex, McCorkle studied film at Southern Methodist University. He has written, directed, scored and produced numerous award-winning short films. He is a father of five, and many of his films address the plight of abandoned or suffering children.
A public viewing of Brent McCorkle's film "Unconditional" will be shown in Cullen Auditorium Thursday, March 21, at 8 p.m., with a Q&A session to follow. All three guests will be on campus Friday, March 22, to talk to students interested in the film industry.
