This weekend marks the opening of deer hunting season in many areas of Texas. Deer hunting is very popular in the Lone Star State, and this season, thousands of men, women, and young people will be heading outdoors hoping for a safe and enjoyable hunting experience.
Unfortunately, each season has its share of hunting accidents. Consequently, the Texas Hunter Education Program was impelented in 1987, and it has had a significant impact on reducing hunting accidents.
Since the establishment of the program, there has been a consistent drop in hunting accidents and fatalities in Texas. Ironically, officials say the typical hunter involved in a hunting accident in Texas has more than ten years hunting experience. .
