It was a beautiful day to be outside, not just to relax, but to learn. The fifth grade students in the McMurry and AISD Math and Science Magnet Program, got on the bus this morning, and headed south of Abilene to the Horse Hollow Wind Farm.

The students had the opportunity, not only learn about wind energy, but to get a tour of the world's largest wind farm. This chance to get out of the classroom, and have a personal experience with wind energy made quite an impression on the students.

The fifth graders in this pilot program were chosen from over one-hundred-seventy students who applied. They had to meet certain attendance and TAKS requirements to be considered for this first class.

These students study the regular fifth grade curriculum, but put extra emphasis on math and science.
