"The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" and "Friday Night Lights," among many other movies were filmed in the state of Texas. They all generated a great deal of money into those Texas communities as well.
"By Abilene becoming a certified Film Friendly community, just like those other communities that have gone through the process. The idea is to help the Texas Film Commission promote what's in that town that could bring film-makers there," Carol Pirie, the Program Manager of Film Friendly Texas said.
A workshop hosted by the Texas Film Commision came to town, informing residents on how we in Ablilene can benefit from on-site filming.
Following this workshop, Abilene businesses are encouraged to take photographs of various locations in Abilene and submit them to an online database.
"I manage a facility that has a lot of vintage buildings and this seemed like a great opportunity to put these really interesting buildings in the network of film-makers," Don Frazier of McMurry University said.
By filming movies here in Abilene, we would see a large sum ofmoney by having the cast and crew stay at our hotels, eat at our restuarants, and even shop at our local stores.
Of course, there is no guarantee that even with Abilene getting a Film Friendly Texas certification that movie scouts will film here. But if they do, Abilene could have a prosperous future ahead.
