Police Deaths Drop in 2008

According to two law enforcement support groups, the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund and Concerns of Police Survivors, police officer deaths in the U.S. dropped in 2008.The same is true for Texas, the state which leads the nation in the number of officers killed in the line of duty.
In 2008, 14 Texas officers were killed, compared to 22 in 2007.
In the nation, 140 were killed, compared to 181 in 2007.
Abilene Police Department lost officer Jeff McCoy in 2007. McCoy was killed by a drunk driver.
