Electric Grid Improvements

By: Chris Whited, KRBC News
Updated: January 2, 2009
The state's largest electric grid operator says it will cost about 3-billion dollars to make improvements to the system in the next five years. The Electric Reliability Council of Texas is proposing seven new projects to build more high-voltage transmission lines across the lone star state. The projects, if approved by the Public Utility Commission, would add just under 3,000 miles of new transmission lines to areas of the state needing more power.

These projects are completely separate of the $5-billion plan to build transmission lines from the wind farms here in the Big Country to other parts of the state. The PUC is expected to soon name a company who will be responsible for the construction of this project.
