Plans For Pine Street

With so many construction plans for Abilene, many are wondering what the city's plans are for the Pine Street Corridor Overlay Project.

"It's a very important corridor to our community. We think that with this study and this overlay zoning that we're going to be able to really bring that up to a really beautiful-looking boulevard," Mayor Norm Archibald said.

With Pine Street being one of Abilene's most traveled streets, the Mayor feels it's important to have an attractive gateway through north Abilene.

"I think this is going to bring a whole new look to Pine Street with some new businesses in some of the older parts of town. But on top of that, this corridor overlay study is going to talk about perhaps the ability for us to have sidewalks along Pine Street, perhaps even a median in the middle," Mayor Norm Archibald added.

The future construction on Pine Street is another beautification project that the Mayor wants to focus on for 2009. "Well businesses are going to be going down there so eventually there will be a lot more traffic.

So, if they're going to do something, now is the time to do it," Jerry Mick an Abilene resident said.

While there is no set date to begin construction, Mayor Archibald says the project is near the top of the City's to-do list.
