A Gorman man died after surgery at the West Texas hospital in 2007.  Nearly two years later, the Spivey family is looking to sue the hospital.   The lawsuit was filed Tuesday at the Taylor County Courthouse.

The lawsuit alleges the medical staff at the physician-owned hospital failed to recognize that Steve Spivey had developed complications after having elective spinal fusion surgery and that the staff neglected to supervise the quality of his treatment.

When Spivey's complications became life-threatening, the staff at West Texas Hospital had to call 9-1-1 to have him taken to Abilene Regional Medical Center.

The family is seeking unspecified damages for the mental anguish and suffering they say they experienced since Spivey's death.

The West Texas Hospital voluntarily closed in March 2007.
