Abilene Home Sales Increase

By: Austin Kellerman
Updated: January 16, 2009
Despite rough, if not dismal, housing numbers across the country, Abilene remains strong when it comes to home sales.

Last month, 126 homes were sold across the city according to the Abilene Board of Realtors. That's nine more homes sold than December of 2007. The figures may not be a meteoric rise, but they represent growth in a national market plagued by double-digit declines.

National figures also highlight double-digit price declines in home values. In December 2007, the average price of a home sold in Abilene was $118,274. This past month, the average price was $125,376. The change shows that either people are spending more money or home prices are on the rise.
Either way, it's good economic news in a troubled economy.
