The next time a fire gets out of control, the Texas Forest Service will be ready. They've stationed a helicopter at Abilene Regional Airport just in case.

If you haven't seen them at work, you may get a chance Saturday according to Les Rogers of the Texas Forest Service, becasue the situation is not good.

Rogers says that area fire departments are ready to assist, and that the helicopter is capable of dumping hundreds of gallons of water on a fire.

The helicopter will be at Abilene Regional Airport and once firefighters get the call, the chopper should be in the air within twenty minutes.

With an area as large as the Big Country and the dry conditions the area faces, chances are it will be in the air helping to fight a fire sometime Saturday.

The forest service says Saturday is not a good day to be welding outside and smokers should not throw cigarettes out their car windows.
