The Texas Public Utility Commission has contracted several electric energy companies to build transmission lines.
The transmission lines will be used to transfer electrical power from the wind farms in west Texas to Houston and the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex.
The $5 billion project is part of the work to develop a competitive renewable energy zone that will allow consumers to use the electric energy generated by the wind farms.
Texas leads the nation in the development of the wind energy industry, and most of the windmills that generate the power are in west Texas.
