Blog: Grammys in Review

Music and pop culture fans in Abilene are getting together in cyberspace to talk about everything Grammy!

It was not the Grammys as usual Sunday night.  Drama was not confined to learning who had won the music industry's biggest honors.  There was also drama playing out at Los Angeles Police headquarters involving one of music's biggest young stars.

Any other year, Robert Plant and Alison Krauss would have been the talk of the Grammys.

This unlikely pairing of a rock legend and a bluegrass queen came away with five awards on the night including album of the year for "Raising Sand."

But on this Sunday night, Grammy drama began an hour before the show got underway.

That's when double Grammy nominee Chris Brown turned himself into police for investigation of an alleged assault on a female early Sunday morning.  He was briefly held before posting $50,000 bail.   Not only was Brown's planned Grammy performance dropped, so was one slated for Brown's longtime girlfriend and fellow Grammy nominee, Rihanna.  But there was no official confirmation of a connection because the victim of Brown's alleged assault has not been identified.

Meanwhile, back at the Staples Center, Lil' Wayne was another multiple Grammy winner. 

Four, ncluding rap album of the year for "Tha' Carter III."

Song of the Year went to the British band Coldplay for "Viva la Vida."  One of their
three grammies on the night.

But for pure emotion, it was tough to top first time Grammy winner Jennifer Hudson.

Four months after the murders of her mother, brother and nephew, Hudson won best R&B album.

And minutes later, delivered a stirring performance that showed family was first on her mind on this Grammy night.

Also among the winners sunday night was British singer Adele  She beat out the likes of the Jonas Brothers for best new artist.
