Both ground and air units are fighting a grass fire near Abilene Regional Airport, having already scorched 58 acres.Smoke in the area was first reported around 2:30 this afternoon and could be seen for miles. It's in an area of weeds and trees off Hwy. 36 just south of the airport, which caused difficulty for firefighters trying to get to the flames.
Several units from the Abilene Fire Department are there, along with the Potosi V.F.D. The Texas Forest Service used its helicopter to drop water on the flames. It flew back and forth to Kirby Lake to fill up.
The cause is still undetermined.
