Some heroic stories are coming out of the fire that began near East Highway 80 and spread quickly north.

With the high winds the fire was heading quickly toward a home where an elderly couple was unaware of what was going on just outside there door.

East Highway 80 is a busy stretch of road, and it is a good thing because it was two women who were passing by on the highway that saw the flames and saw where the fire was headed.

The two women saw somebody crossing the road running towards the flames.

When they realized what was happening, one of them went to work on the fire with a water hose in the front yard of the home, while the other went to see if there was anybody inside.

There happened to be an elderly man and women.

When the front door would not open, they did the only thing they could.

Both escaped safely and their home was also spared.

The flames progressed north where others went to work until the the fire department could arrive.

A close call, but with the help of some strangers, nobody was hurt.
