MLB Player Tested Positive For Steroids

By: Maria Oliver/NBC
Updated: February 7, 2009
According to an article posted on Sports Illustrated's website, Alex Rodriguez tested positive for two anabolic steroids during his MVP season of 2003.

The article says that Rodriguez's name appears on a list of 104 players who tested positive for performance enhancing drugs in a 2003 baseball survey.

Rodriguez, who played for the Texas Rangers in 2003 before being traded to the New York Yankees a year later, declined to discuss the tests after being confronted by a reporter for Sports Illustrated Thursday in Miami.

Since 1991, Major League Baseball has prohibited the use of steroids without a valid prescription, however there were no penalties in place for a positive test back in 2003.
