Updated: February 8, 2009
Firefighters battled a large wildfire in Callahan County late Sunday afternoon. The blaze sparked near County Road 482 and County Road 473. The Texas Forest Service named it the Belle Plaine Fire.

As of 5:45pm, firefighters had a control line around 50 percent of the fire. A heavy helicopter, an air attack aircraft, and 2 bulldozers responded. The aircraft have since been released.

Meteorologists predict the possibility of rain late Sunday which could put the fire out for good.
