Fire Danger Remains After Rain

By: Ron Rosseau
Updated: February 9, 2009
The rain came about 1 o'clock this morning.

Less than a half inch of rain fell across the city; certainly not a drought-buster.

The rain developed when a cold front pushed through after several days of southeast winds brought gulf moisture across the region.

The rainfall totals ranged from slightly more than a quarter of an inch in the Wylie area to slightly less than a half-inch in north east Abilene.

The system developed in the desert southwest and drifted east across the state.

In spite of the rain, the National Weather Service reports that the region is still in a severe threat of wildfires; partially because of the gusty winds.
