AISD's Critical Needs Task Force has four main goals in mind to improve AISD Schools.

The Task Force is looking to improve security through out all district campuses, making sure all parents, students, and staff members are safe.

Improving the quality of buildings through renovations and replacements are another main concern the Task Force has.

The Task Force wants to replace College Heights and Fannin Elementary with one building costing $11 million. Replacing Bowie Elementary School would also cost $11 million.

They would like to see Taylor Elementary, two early childhood centers, and Woodson Center for Excellence renovated, equaling $13.1 million.

Security and Technology upgrades would total $11 million. The total costs with redistributed bond money from 2004, would be $26.3 million.

The Task Force have also revisited the idea of building a career tech school here in Abilene, which would cost $26 million.

Superintendent Dr. David Polnick says the critical needs task force have many great findings and the school board will have a lot on their hands. "Our School Board's major decision will be, what do we do with this information, what action do we take, what timelines do we follow. They have their work cut out for them."

Meanwhile, Chair for the Critical Needs Task Force says, he is hoping the school board adds another committee to oversee the financial aspect of the AISD's needs.

"How do we do this? How do we fund it, is it a bond issue? Is it private donations and over what period of time? Those are all very, very, critical and crucial things to study and we suggest that another committee is formed and very similar to ours," said Lancaster.

The school board will now take into account all the findings and set a time line... And define what action the district should take on these findings.
