Abilene Stores Closing and Changing Locations

By: Andrew Carlson
Updated: February 9, 2009
A popular Abilene retail store has closed its doors.

Stein Mart announced last year that its store in the Park Central

Shopping Center would close after the holiday shopping season.

For the past few weeks they have been clearing out the remaining stock, and is now officially closed.

Company officials blamed the souring economy for the closure.

Even though Stein Mart has closed, the Bealls department store on Barrow street is moving into a new location.

They plan to take over the former "Goodys" location inside the shops at Abilene.

The move will be finished in March, with a grand opening on March 19.

The Bealls store on Grape street will remain at its current location.
