Clean Paint

We all know that painting can be a messy job, so here are some fun quick tips to help you clean up before you get started. First of all take some masking tape and line it up around the edge of the top of the can. Make sure you completely cover the lip of the can as well.
Once your project is complete and you remove the tape you have a nice clean can.
Also before you pour your paint into a roller pan, place the pan in a large plastic bag. A "tall" size kitchen trash bag will work well. The plastic bag will keep your pan as clean as new.
Speaking of clean as new, it is important to try to clean up as you go -- the longer the paint sets, the more difficult cleaning up will be. Use a cloth with soap and water or the correct solvent for cleaning.
A razor-blade scraper or putty knife will chip off bigger paint droplets that have dried.
Use a scraper to trim around windowpanes, trying not to break the seal between glass and paint.
Wash and dry brushes and rollers. Store them according to manufacturer's recommendations.
Storage
Tap container lids tight with a hammer and block of wood or a large rubber mallet. Store solvent-based paint cans upside down to prevent a skin from forming. When storing your paint be sure to avoid extreme heat or cold.
Special waterless hand cleaners remove both latex-base and oil-base paints easily and quickly. These waterless hand cleaners will not irritate your skin like many solvents. Wipe the paste-type cleaner on your hands, wipe it off, and the paint will come off with it.
Once you have completed your project, cleaned up and stored your paint properly you will want to take care of your brushes.
Step 1
Take care of your brushes by cleaning them carefully after each painting job and then wrap and store them for future use. Fold wax paper around the brush and seal it with a rubber band.

Wash latex paints out of a brush with clear warm water.
Step 3
Clean brushes used with oil-base paints with regular paint cleaner or some type of solvent. Clean the brush thoroughly, then wrap it in wax paper and store it for future use.
Step 5
Clean rollers in the same basic way as paint brushes. Take time to clean them thoroughly.
If you do have some spills after all, here are a few tips for cleaning up. These tips also work well when trying to remove oil based stains on your carpet and upholstery.
1. Sponge with a small amount of dry-cleaning solvent.
Blot. (Use small amounts to prevent any possible damage to sizings, backings, or stuffing materials. **Do not use gasoline, lighter fluid, or carbon tetrachloride**).
2. Mix one teaspoon of a neutral detergent (a mild detergent containing no alkalizes or bleaches) with a cup of luke-warm water. Blot.
3. Sponge with clean water. Blot.
4. OR Seek the help of a professional carpet cleaner.

detergent containing no alkalizes or bleaches) with a cup
of luke-warm water. Blot.

Washing Painted Walls, Woodwork
Gloss or semi-gloss enamels are less likely to be damaged by cleaning than is flat latex paint. Test cleaning solution in an inconspicuous corner first; if wall color and finish look the same--but cleaner--go ahead and use.
Wash or spot clean most painted surfaces with a solution of water and mild detergent (such as hand dishwashing liquid), or a mild commercial household cleaner, that says on the label it is safe for painted surfaces.
Rinse off thoroughly with clear water.
If walls are very dirty, use a stronger alkali solution such as 2 tablespoons of ammonia or tablespoon of trisodium phosphate or 2 tablespoons of laundry detergent powder in 1-gallon of warm (not hot) water. Stronger solutions remove some of the paint. Always rinse off.

2. Use one bucket for washing solution and one for rinsing, and a large cellulose sponge for each bucket.

5. Rub gently to avoid damage to paint.
6. Wash and rinse one area; then do the next overlapping area.
7. After doing several areas, dry off the excess moisture with soft absorbent cloths or towels, which can be washed and reused.
