AISD Schools Given New Instruments

By: Laura Kellerman
Updated: February 11, 2009
Three AISD elementary schools have a collection of new percussion instruments, thanks to a grant from the Community Foundation of Abilene.

The $13,616 grant was used to purchase Orff musical instruments, which are specifically designed for music education.

Johnston, Lee and Reagan, each received two xylophones, one metallophone, instrument stands with wheels, five bass bars and mallets and are already being used by students in their music classes.  A West African drum, called the djembe, was also added to the collection of instruments.

The Community Foundation of Abilene raises, manages and distributes funds for charitable purposes.
