"It's a sad day for Abilene," says Frank Johnson, chair of the Citizens Golf Committee after City Council voted not to buy Diamondback Golf Club. 
"We did a lot of work, took a lot of time and obviously decisions had already been made, in my opinion. And the council, I guess didn't want to have any more discussion of going forward so they did the vote today...and killed it," Frank Johnson added.
While Diamondback will not be Abilene's future Municpal golf course, that's not the only thing that bothered those in favor of the purchase.
"The losers of this are the Jr. Golfers. The City of abilene voted to just deep 6 Jr. Golf," Frank Johnson said.
One of the big issues that the committee raised was the importance of the future of golf, not only in response to a course but also to the players. Some members of the committee felt like Jr. Golfers would have a better learning experience on Diamondback Golf Club.
However, many of Maxwell's Jr. golfers think that it is a much better golf course to learn on to perfect their game than at Diamondback. City Council solely made the decision to "cease the conversation" of Diamondback, but some feel the decision entails much more than that.
"I am very disappointed because they have shut down what I feel is Municipal Golf for the City of Abilene," David Gage, a member of the Citizens Golf Committee said.
While some were unhappy with the Councils 4 to 3 vote. Some of the senior golfers thought justice was brought to City Hall.
"Me and 17 million other guys that participated in WWII to have a deal where they can sit there (referring to Council Members) in peace and harmony and express their opinions and do, and say whatever they want to and then to come to a conclusion by a vote...That's the what I fought That i fought in a war for," Jim Johnson, a strong supporter of Maxwell Golf Course said.
While many feel golf is dead others have never felt it more alive.
"Every day the sun shines...Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. I'm gunna be out at Maxwell playing golf with my friends and enjoying what's left of my life," Jim Johnson added.
