Maxwell was pretty busy today, as faithful golfers celebrated; a day after City Council voted for Abilene's Municipal Golf Course to stay.

"This is my home away from home," Armando Caldron says about Maxwell Golf Course.

Many of our faithful Maxwell golfers just weren't willing to say goodbye to a course they've been playing for years, some even for several decades.

"I played every course in the area. And I consider this course in good condition and I will continue to play here and support it," Lewayne Harris, a diehard Maxwell player said.

Most Maxwell golfers appreciate the prestige of Diamondback Golf Club, but say it's just not for everybody.

"Diamondback's a good course and I play it a lot. But for the average golfer, like we have here in Abilene, the municipal is better suited for that," Joe Marshall, who prefers playing Maxwell said.

Seniors within the community make up a large component of Abilene's golfers, many who prefer playing at Maxwell.

" And it serves well for the seniors and when I'm gone, there'll be a bunch of seniors that'll come after us," Lewayne Harris added.

In response to City Council's final decision,"I think they made the right decision. You know the little money that they can spend on this course. There's a lot of good memories around here," Armando Caldron added.
