Many other organizations in town admire the success of the Abilene Zoo.
For example, the Mockingbird Library Branch looked to the Zoo's organization for it's grand opening and for guidance on how to execute as a city-run business.
"I think the thing that sets the zoo apart from any other organizations is that it's very easy for us and the public, and people that are concerned about animal welfare and conservation to fall in love with their local zoo and that is one of the great strengths that sets us apart from many other organizations," Bill Baker, Abilene's Zoo's director said.
Mayor Norm Archibald says it's the passion among zoo workers and supporters in the community that make it so successful.
As for the Abilene Zoo's Director, Bill Baker, hey said, "We're very fortunate in so far as we have a wonderful management team and we also have a wonderful group of employees and it's a really unique situation in my experience to work for a city that is so supportive and team-oriented and that's really been a benefit. I think that's one of our greatest strengths is that team-oriented philosophy that is really strong for the City of Abilene."
With the Abilene Zoo being the only zoo in this part of Texas between Fort Worth and El Paso, Abilene is very lucky to have this type of Municipality.
