A new homeless shelter is in the works for Abilene.

The "Our House" shelter is currently in its development and funding stages. The shelter would be specially designed to provide housing for homeless and unaccompanied youth.

A public meeting was held this evening to discuss the need for such a facility in Abilene. Randy Perkins, one of the project leaders, says this facility would serve as more than just a shelter.

Perkins says the over 32 organizations involved in the project have already secured three grants and are moving forward in the development of this shelter.
