The stimulus plan officially became a law Tuesday.

President Obama signed the bill in Denver Tuesday afternoon. He said that signing the bill is only the first step in the long road toward economic recovery.

The 787 billion dollar plan includes a combination of tax cuts as well as spending for education, infrastructure, and alternative energy.

The president also addressed the war in Afghanistan Tuesday. The Pentagon announced plans to deploy about twelve thousand more troops to the region, followed by another five thousand at a later date. The goal is to seize and hold territory to allow for basic security, which officials claim hasn't been possible at current troop levels.
