Update: Abilene Grass Fire Injures Firefighters

 6 P.M. Update:

All the Firefighters injured in the accident are doing well and will be released from the hospital.


Three Abilene firefighters were injured this afternoon while battling a grass fire in north Abilene.

The four-wheel drive brush truck flipped over along the railroad tracks near North 16th and Almond after losing its balance.

Three firefighters were taken to hospital; one by personal vehicle, two by ambulance.

Risk management and mechanics have been called in to assess the situation.

A second brush truck was also called in to fight the fire, which has now been contained.
