Washing your car can now be a green effort thanks to the innovations of one Texas company. Dusty and dry weather are common here in this part of Texas which can really take the shine off your ride. Washing a car can waste gallons of water but one local Abilene car wash has found a way to keep your car green while keeping the environment green.

XStream AutoClean takes waste water and drains it into a trench where it is processed through three tanks to remove sediments and other liquids. The water is them filtered through a rigorous reverse osmosis process. Now the purified water is put back to use to clean your vehicle.

We spoke with Tom Brown, a local customer care representative who told us  "we reclaim 70-percent of our water and reuse it. We actually use less water in our car wash than you would use in your driveway. We take city water to an RO (reverse osmosis) state or drinking water state so we put that on the last half of the car and then we reclaim that water too."  Not only does the business use the recycled water, they also specialize in cleaning your vehicle with environmentally friendly biodegradable cleaning products.

This process has even caught the attention of the city of Abilene who has awarded the business for their "green" efforts. Brown told us "we were fortunate last year to be recognized out of the whole city and every business in the city. We were recognized as the best business to put forth water conservation. We do everything we can to encourage recycling and it just basically came from a interest in innovation. We hope to take this on through Texas and other locations as well too."

XStream AutoClean is headquartered in Lubbock and there are plans in the works to build a second car wash here in Abilene.
