Diabetes are on the rise in the United States, especially among senior citizens. Now local diabetics can have individual plans to live a healthier life.
Medical Nutrition Therapy is a new program at the Hendrick Medical Center designed to help those with diabetes live a healthier life, based on individual needs. Diabetics work with dietitians to create a personalized plan, including nutrition and exercise, to maintain health glucose levels as well as overall health.
The program began in January, and dietitians say having a personalized plan is beneficial for diabetic seniors who are on the road to better health.
Dietitians say seniors without diabetes should take preventive measures to reduce the risk of diabetes, so that the growing number might someday take a turn. Such measures include exercise, a well-rounded diet, and mentally stimulating activities.
