Abilene regional airport will soon receive a grant of nearly five million dollars from the (FAA) Federal Aviation Administration.

The City plans to match 5% of that to help out with the airport projects.

"Two construction projects right off the bat, one will be the continuation of our ramp area reconstruction project," Don Green, Director of Aviation said.

This ramp project is well under way but was just missing the funds to complete it.

The second project at hand is the reconstruction of the T Hanger taxi lanes on the Abilene Aero Ramp.

"It's fairly old asphalt out there, itt's much needed," Don Green added.

Construction crews are already hard at work laying down new concrete. "

It's huge and this is concrete that will last up to 30 years," Don Green said.

The new concrete will allow planes taxing in and out of Abilene Aero to have a smoother surface to travel on. But the grant isn't only for these two projects. City Manager, Larry Gilley adds, "it would also provide funding for engineering services in the future."
