New Laptops for Coleman High School Students

Students at Coleman High School had something to smile about on Monday night, as each student received a brand new Dell laptop.

"We are ecstatic, we are looking so forward to this," says Sue Sloan, Vice President of the Coleman ISD School Board, "the teachers, the administration, have been working hard to get ready for this night.

Excitement filled the hallways as students rushed to their classrooms to log-on and customize their high tech notebooks.

Colton Buzzard is a senior at CHS, he believes the new laptops will help him and his fellow classmates prepare for the future.

"To go to college, you need a laptop," says Buzzard, "and this will help us out a lot."

Coleman ISD received $500,000 to purchase 350 laptops for high school students and teachers, it's all part of the "Vision 2020" grant. Ninety school districts applied for the grant. Coleman ISD, led by the high school's principal Richard Holloway, was among the few lucky recipients.

Although, this is not the first time Coleman ISD received laptopls for students, eighth graders were issued their own personal laptops last year. Bambi Yebra, now a freshman at CHS, was one of them.

"I guess I'm lucky because not many schools have them," says Yebra, "I'm very lucky."

District officials held an assembly in the school auditorium, where officials from Dell, community leaders, and parents all gatheed with students to celebrate a major upgrade in district technology.

"Everything nowadays you need technology to do, and now that our teachers give us laptops, a lot of kids that don't have a computer at home can get their assignments done," says Buzzard.

It's an upgrade that only makes technology more accessible to students, but better prepares them for the future.
