Three grass fires are burning in the area; one in Taylor County, one in Callahan County and one in Runnels County.  />
Bulldozers traveled up and down FM 603, working to create a stop line around the fire. Two large helicopters are dropping water on the flames, refilling, and heading back to continue fighting the fire.

Structures are threatened, according to Marq Webb, spokesman for the Texas Forest Service.  There was no estimate as to how large the fire was as of 5:10 p.m.  One witness reported the fire reached her mother-in-law's house. That has not been confirmed.

As of 1:40 p.m. today, a fire near the ridge above Mulberry Canyon had burned about 40 acres of land in far west Taylor County.  The flames are fueled by winds, dry air, and heavy juniper brush. Four volunteer fire departments are fighting the blaze with the Texas Forest Service, using bulldozers.

Another fire five miles northeast of Ballinger is said to be threatening one structure, and a helicopter is working to battle those flames, as well.
