Millions of dollars will go toward the amendment of Abilene roads.
The Abilene Metropolitan Planning Organization held a public meeting today to discuss a proposed revision to the transportation improvement program. The revision involves a project to relocate ramps, add frontage road lanes, and make other frontage road improvements on I-20.
M.P.O. has $5 million from the Recovery Act to use toward revisions and is hoping for state leverage to help with the improvement plan. Project priorities include I-20 revisions and additional roadway projects including Barrow, Mockingbird, and Judge Ely. M.P.O. is considering three scenarios for revisions to make:
a) Local money is used for I-20 revisions
b) Half of local money is used on I-20, half for additional roadway projects
c) Local money is used for additional roadway projects
The Abilene M.P.O. plan will go before the state legislature on Thursday to determine the allocation of funds for the plan.
