Soon, safety city will soon be welcoming an entirely new fire safety building on the premises.

Say goodbye to the little portable where third graders used to get their fire safety education at Safety City. They'll soon be getting an upgrade.

Kids all around the Big Country will get to help raise the funds for a new fire facility. As the Abilene Fire Department kicks off a penny drive at sixty-eight participating schools.

The current fire facility can only hold about thrity students. The new building will be able to hold a great deal more than that.

Students can anticipate a better fire safety lesson once the project is complete.

Construction is set to begin at the start of June. The fire department hopes it will be completed by the summer's end- just in time for the kids to return back to school.

The penny drive starts at participating schools on March 1st.
