UPDATE: FEMA to Pay for Clyde Fire

By: Laura Kellerman
Updated: February 25, 2009
 Wednesday 4:30 p.m. Update:
The Federal Emergency Management Agency will pay 75 percent of the costs for fighting Tuesday's 700-acre fire near Eula.

The federal funds can be to cover the costs incurred by all agencies involved for things such as: field camps; equipment use, repair and replacement; tools, materials and supplies; and mobilization and demobilization activities.

The agencies involved included 15 from Taylor and Callahan Counties and the Texas Forest Service.

Wednesday 3 p.m. Update:
The fire that burned 700 acres near Eula Tuesday was 80 percent contained as of 3 p.m. Wednesday, said Marq Webb, information officer for the Texas Forest Service.  The TFS is working with the Clyde Volunteer Fire Department to finish the job, attacking from both the air and the ground.

One home was destroyed by the fire.  The owner, Jon Ann Patton, said she has found the silver lining and knows that everything happens for a reason.  Donations can be made to help Patton at any branch of the Teachers Federal Credit Union.

Two homes were damaged, and nine outbuildings lost.  More than sixty homes were directly saved. One of those residents contacted bigcountryhomepage.com asking that we publicly thank the volunteer fire departments who worked to save her home and those of her neighbors.
